There is no one more fitting than Boy George—a true friend of Israel—to reopen the country’s doors to international performances. He arrives with a personal message of love, hope, and a deep bond with the Israeli audience.
Boy George stands as one of the most iconic and influential artists of the last four decades. His journey spans from his meteoric rise with Culture Club in the 1980s to a highly successful solo career, featuring massive hits such as “Karma Chameleon,” “Everything I Own,” and “The Crying Game.” He is a Grammy Award winner with a thriving international career as a singer, songwriter, and DJ.
Boy George’s connection to Israel goes far beyond music. Over the years, he has performed in Israel and repeatedly expressed his affection for the Israeli public. Even when faced with international criticism and pressure, he chose to maintain his ties to Israel and stand by his personal convictions. In recent months, this bond has taken on an even deeper significance. On July 26, George released “We Will Dance Again,” a song inspired by the events of October 7 and the massacre at the Nova music festival. The song is accompanied by a powerful music video that tells the stories of the Nova victims and honors the memory of the young people who came to the festival to dance, celebrate, and find joy. It conveys a message of life, hope, and the promise that, one day, we will dance again. Through this song, Boy George has chosen to use his voice and international standing to express a personal message of solidarity with Israel and the victims of October 7.
Boy George—born George Alan O’Dowd—burst onto the scene in the early 1980s as the lead singer of the band Culture Club, quickly becoming one of the most recognizable and iconic artists of the decade. In 1982, the band gained international prominence with the massive hit “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me,” which reached number one in the UK and achieved remarkable success worldwide. A year later, the album *Colour by Numbers* was released, establishing Culture Club as one of the biggest bands in the world; it featured “Karma Chameleon”—one of the pop hits most synonymous with the 1980s. In 1984, Culture Club won the prestigious Grammy Award for Best New Artist, and Boy George became not only a music star but also a cultural and fashion icon, known for his unique, bold, and groundbreaking style. During that same period, he also participated in the historic Band Aid project—recording “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”—alongside some of the finest British musical artists. Following the breakup of Culture Club in the mid-1980s, Boy George launched a successful solo career.
In 1987, he released his solo album *Sold*; the track “Everything I Own” reached number one on the British charts and became one of the biggest hits of his solo career. Over the years, he continued to create music and perform, while simultaneously building a successful career as a DJ and producer in the electronic music scene.
In 1992, Boy George recorded “The Crying Game” for the acclaimed film of the same name. The song achieved international success and earned him another Grammy nomination. Throughout the 1990s, he continued to blend pop music, dance, and DJ work, and in 1999, he received another Grammy nomination for “When Will You Learn.”
Boy George also expanded his creative endeavors into the worlds of theater and musicals. In 2002, he created the musical *Taboo*, based on his own life and the London cultural, fashion, and nightlife scene of the 1980s, while simultaneously continuing an international career as a musician and DJ.
During the 2010s, Boy George returned to the stage with Culture Club, and the band embarked on international tours. In 2018, they released the album *Life*—Culture Club’s first album in nearly two decades—marking a new chapter in the band’s collaborative work.
To this day, Boy George continues to perform worldwide, remaining active as a singer, songwriter, and DJ. Over the course of more than four decades, he has built an extraordinary career that bridges music, fashion, culture, and personal expression, establishing him as one of the most recognizable and influential British artists of his era.
